Overseeding

This is Yard Rescuers and we’re going to teach these neighbours how to get the lawns and gardens they’ve always wanted, so join us to see how we can bring these yards back to life in just a few easy steps with help from the latest Scotts and Miracle-Gro products.

On this episode of Yard Rescuers, we help Keith give his lawn new life by overseeding, going from old, tired grass to a thick, healthy lawn that will help prevent future problems like weeds, drought, and other stresses.

You have a beautiful home here, but we got to talk about your lawn. It looks like it needs a little bit of help. Yeah, it does. As you can see, there are a lot of bare patches and it really is lifeless in spots. We had it sodded, then we were away for an extended period of time, and it didn’t get the attention it deserved.

Well, you raise a good point. Grass certainly isn’t immortal and it deteriorates over time, so that’s why it’s so important to give it new life every so often. Have you ever tried overseeding? No, I haven’t, but I’d be really interested to see the type of results you can get out of doing that.

Absolutely. Overseeding is a great way to get your lawn looking new again, but it’s important to get the right seed for your conditions. Let’s go take a look at some products that would be perfect to rescue your lawn.

Alright, Keith, this is Scotts Turf Builder Coated Grass Seed. It’s a high quality seed with an absorbent coating that helps keep seeds moist, even if you miss a day of watering. That sounds great because that happens a lot around here. And it comes in a wide variety of mixes for different lawn conditions, such as sunny, dense shade, or even high traffic. But since you have some nice trees here, we’re going to go with the sun and shade mix.

You could apply the seed directly to your lawn now, but to grow your grass thicker and quicker, we’re going to topdress it first with Scotts Enriched Lawn Soil. And you’re also going to want to apply a Seed Starter fertilizer like Scotts Turf Builder Starter Lawn Food. How does that all sound? Sounds great. Let’s do it.

Great job, Keith. So what do you think? Well, that was a lot easier than I thought and I can’t wait to see the results. Excellent. Just make sure to keep the seeds moist by watering frequently for the first two to three weeks, and soon you’ll see your new grass come through, making your whole lawn thicker, healthier, and looking like new.
