I prefer this kind of
exercise because of keeping the neutral spinal posture rather than using crunches or
sit-ups, which can actually put a lot more strain on the low back and the overall
spine, and lead to back problems.

So let’s just go through a couple points on how to make sure you’re doing the planks
correctly. And when you’re doing this, you want your elbows to be right underneath
your shoulder. You want to make sure that your glutes are in line with your shoulders
and you have a nice, neutral spine. And you don’t want to see a sag in your back.
You want to see it nice and engaged. Your bellybutton’s pulled up right into your
spine. And this is what you really want to look. And you want to hold for as long as
you can before you start to feel any back pain. If you feel back pain, take a break
and give yourself a little rest.
