How to Revive Plastic Trim

No matter how kind we are to our vehicles, inevitably the plastic trim around the edges takes a beating. And if we leave it unchecked, it can ruin the overall look of the car. So let’s touch it up. You got this.

To begin with, here’s what you’re going to need:

Before you get started, find a nice shaded area that will minimize the amount of dust or dirt in the air that could affect the final finish. If you can do this in a garage, that’s ideal.

You’re also going to want to make sure it’s not too hot outside. If the plastic is too hot – if it’s hot to the touch, it’s too hot – the product may dry too fast and the surface could leave streaks.

1. Grab yourself a multi-purpose cleaner with a microfibre towel and clean the surface so it’s clear of any dirt, oil or grease, otherwise the solution’s just not going to work.

2. Find your bottle of trim renew and give it a good shake for about 10 seconds, so that you’re thoroughly mixing up the product.

You can use a sponge or a cloth to apply the trim renew. We recommend a sponge, as it will leave behind a thicker layer of the product and is less likely to leave streaks. However, if you’ve got an oddly shaped area, you may find a cloth is easier to use.

3. Slowly pour the trim renew onto the sponge or cloth until it’s totally saturated. Now, using a smooth and consistent stroke from one end of the surface to the other, apply an even layer of the product. Very slightly overlap your strokes to cover the entire surface areas.

4. Make sure the applicator remains saturated throughout the process, pouring more product out as you go.

If the trim is badly faded or has absorbed a lot of the first coat of trim renew, simply wait 5 minutes and apply a second coat.

Don’t touch the surface for at least one hour after treatment. Also make sure to keep it dry. Wait a full 24 hours before you expose the treated trim to any moisture like rain or dew.

If you followed these steps exactly, your trim will be looking good as new, helping to improve the overall look of your car. That wasn’t so bad, right? Yeah, we told you, you got this.
