How to remove stains from a rug

That brand new area rug you bought really makes the room pop, but not with ugly spills and stains all over it. Don’t worry – you’ve got this.

For simple carpet stains, dry the stain with a cloth or paper towel and then treat the area with cold water. Avoid using hot water as it may make the stain harder to remove.

Using a cloth, gently dab the stained area from the outside in. Never rub or wipe, as doing so could potentially damage the rug and make the stain worse.

Once the stain has been successfully removed, put paper towel down to cover the area. Once dry, vacuum the rug.

More resistant stains can be combated by dabbing mixtures of cold water with vinegar, dish detergent or non-bleach laundry detergent to the stained area.

People should notice your great style, not your dirty rug – you’ve got this.
